What is Public Relations and How Does it Improve Your Bottom Line?

The value of public relations has in the past been overlooked as an essential tool in the branding of a company, organization or individual. Public Relations is used as an instrument to gain editorial coverage which ultimately reaches the consumer in an unbiased and descriptive way. The ultimate objective a client intends from a publicity campaign is to drive revenue through demand. A PR campaign establishes credibility and focuses on delivering a desired image whereas other advertising efforts can be interpreted as generic or aggressive.

Media relations have been and continue to be one of the key facet for effective Public Relations. For PR agencies, networking and building media relationships building with media contacts are necessary for running effective public relations campaigns through mass media. These key relationships will allow a brand to not deliver awareness of brand image but to maintain visibility after the initial buzz dissolves.

Although placing advertisements in publications can be effective in creating brand awareness, it does not necessarily serve as validation of a company's products or services. However, editorials written and featured by an unbiased third party represent an outsider's experience and perception. When your target market reads an article in a valued publication, the article directly conveys third-party credibility, providing a valid endorsement of the product or service.

Incorporating creative elements, incentives and using key influencers in a PR campaign are essential in increasing the desired demand to drive revenue. Restaurants also have a similar intention. Effective PR within these industries is much more than simply placing client names in the media. A more conducive campaign delivers the effective means in which a story or an image is communicated to the public. A PR firm designing a successful campaign also provides ideas on services, special events, social media strategies, and even featuring special guests who can have an impact on the public's perception. This includes the ability to leverage with industry reviewers, celebrities, designers, or other influential businesses. The ultimate goal for the PR firm is to get people to come through their clients' doors and to maintain public visibility. Once they have achieved that, getting the same people to return lies in the hands of the client.
